Thoracic Surgery

Frisbie's networked, board-certified Thoracic surgeon has expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of health conditions of the chest cavity, including lung disease and lung cancer. Patients with suspected or known lung cancer will be treated at the newly developed Chest Center at Frisbie Memorial Hospital; a multidisciplinary approach to diagnosing and treating lung cancer.

Minimally-Invasive Thoracic Surgery

Patients with lung disease have access to minimally-invasive surgical procedures, which allow for less bleeding, a reduced risk of infection, decreased postoperative pain, shorter hospital stays and a more rapid recovery. In most cases, patients can return to their daily activities within weeks of surgery. Minimally-invasive thoracic surgery of the chest is performed with a thoracoscope (small video scope) using small incisions and special instruments to minimize .This procedure, also known as VATS (video-assisted thoracic surgery), is performed by making three small incisions (approximately one inch) into the chest and/or back. Through these incisions, surgical instruments and video equipment can be inserted for the appropriate procedure.
